Soukie Sparkle Cowl (or a Scarf)
Who loves to rummage through the sale bin in yarn stores? I do! And don’t you find they often have a couple of small balls of really pretty yarn at a knock down price – but you think what the heck can I make with it?
Did you get tempted a while ago? and know that you have a couple of small balls of sparkly yarn in your stash? Just sitting there waiting for a suitable project?
We are all like magpies aren’t we, when it comes to something small and pretty, and especially sparkly!
It happens to me all the time; and then when I get home, I put it away and can’t think of a project for it.
I was browsing in store recently and found 2 balls of this gorgeous Sirdar Soukie dk (SH0184 Lot 8001) in 50g balls in this beautiful shade of turquoise – who could resist – and the price was a steal.
But what could I make with 240 yards?
I decided on a decorative cowl (or scarf – you choose) that could be worn with a t-shirt in summer; or equally with a smart dress for the evening, or for the holidays. You could always leave it as a scarf, and add a small fringe too.
I had a look through my stitch books and found a stitch called Open Checker Stitch which called for a multiple of 6 stitches (+3 for foundation). This stitch combination gives a nice open stitch which shows off the sparkle and won’t add weight to your neck.
So enjoy this new free pattern and let me see some pictures in my Facebook Group or Instagram on the combinations you came up with using your stash!
It would be really fun to hear how long you have had the yarn you choose! Tee! Hee!
